Over time or through trauma, teeth can weaken. Common dental problems include:
- Chips
- Cracks
- Discoloration
- Staining
- Crookedness
- Gaps
- Poor shape
If you feel that your smile isn’t at its strongest, dental crowns can help you recover your youthful grin. If Dr. Van Horn notices a decayed or weakened tooth, she may suggest a dental crown or another restoration to support it.
Dental crowns can be composed of porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, or gold. We’ll take the time to listen and consult with you. Dr. Van Horn will help you choose a material based on the location of the damaged tooth and your personal preferences.
The Porcelain Crowns Process
The dental crown process usually requires 2-3 visits to our friendly office. During your first visit, we will reshape the tooth so that a crown can fit over it. We will provide you with a local anesthetic during this visit so that you do not experience any discomfort.
Once the tooth is prepared, we will take an impression of the tooth and send it to our dental lab. After a few weeks, you can return to our office for crown fitting and placement. In the meantime, we can provide you with a temporary crown while you wait for your final restoration.
